Textual Analysis for 3 films

Mise en Scene:
Setting: Los Angeles 1984
Costume, Hair and Makeup: Jumpers and smart clothing for the boys, skirts and cardigans for the girls, which is typical American clothing back in the 80's. The girls have normal tied up hair and the boys have short shaven hair. No makeup that stands out.
Facial expressions: Shock when they see the blood and the bullet holes, laughter when Trey jokes and then anger when the two boys confront each other in class.
Positioning of Characters within the frame: All the main characters are positioned in the centre of the frame but as Trey is walking home there is a fight which is located to the left of the frame which shows what goes on behind Treys back.
Lighting and Colour: High key lighting and bright colours.

Sound and Editing
Off screen diegetic sounds at the begging of two characters talking in a car just before a shooting, then a distressed little boy. After this the dark screen becomes a street which has a stop sign this is symbolic because it gives us the message of "Stop this Crime". Non digetic  sound is used when the children go and see where the shooting took place which shows that a tragic event has taken place. Off scene digetic takes place when the teacher and the mum are talking, this is ironic as when Trey is walking down the street you can see a gang of older youths fighting which should really be his role models.

Memorable Camera Shots
Tracking level shot when the kids are walking to school to give the impression of where they live by showing all the houses with smashed windows and the rubbish and dogs on the street. The close up shot of the poster of the president with the bullet holes in to give the impression that he was hated and they blamed him for the mess they are in. Long wide shot of Trey walking home where the audience really focuses on the gang fighting behind him.

Mise en Scene:
Setting: On a beach at night.
Costume, Hair and Makeup; The guy was wearing smart clothes and looked like he just been to a party with the girl who was wearing jeans and a top before she took them off.
Facial expressions: As the girl was running she seemed happy and laughing, but as she got attacked by the shark her facial expressions changed to fear.
Positioning of Characters within a frame: The two main characters in this scene are in the centre of the frame, and zoomed in on the girl in the water with a close up shot.
Lighting and colour: Low key light to give the impression of the time of night, dark colours.

Sounds and Editing:
Off screen digetic sound of the birds to show that they are on a beach near the coast. Then there is the conversation that they are having with each other. When the girl is in the water you can hear the non digetic music which gives the effect of something bigs gonna happen and its put there to build it up.

Memorable Camera shots
Tracking shot of the two people running along the beach to show the location of the area. The pan up shot gives us the effect that something is under her in the water looking up at her
, just waiting to strike. Another memorable shot is of her clinging onto the boi for her life.

Mise en Scene:
Setting: This scene is set in a large town in England and in this scene it is set next to a wall where one of the characters is leaning up against it.
Costume, Hair and Makeup: The old guy is wearing old clothing and looks like a tramp who lives on the streets, whereas the four younger guys are all wearing the same outfit, white suits, big boots and hats which could give the impression that they are in a gang.
Facial expressions: The four guys facial expressions are smiling and happy to show that they feel some sort of pleasure from hurting people. Whereas the old guys facial expression of hurt when the guy puts the cane into his ribs.
Positioning of Character: The old guy is firstly introduced and is in the centre of the frame but then it zooms out and you see four shadows. Then there is a long shot of the four guys walking towards the guy. After that the four guys are looking over the guy to show their authority.
Lighting and Colour: Low key lights, and the colour white shows out the most.

Sound and Editing:
The first sound you hear is the old guy singing, then you hear a voice over of the main character describing how he hates when drunken men sing which gives the effect that these guys walking up to him weren't there to help him but to do something to him. Then you hear the clapping and the guys mocking him.

Memorable Camera Shots:
The first memorable shot is the close up of the guys hand next to the bottles of alcohol, which shows that he is possibly an alcoholic who is living on the streets. The next shot that stands out is when the old guy is covered by the shadows of the four men which gives the effect that they are above him and that he is in their shadows. The last shot that stands out is when the guy is looking up at the leader of the gang which shows the power that this guy has over the poor old man and that he is feared.
