Mise en Scene

This is the trailer for the 2008 film "Prom Night"

Settings and Props
The setting of this film is in a hotel, which is typical for a Prom. This gives the audience the effect that its just a normal prom. The props used are handbags, flowers, disco ball. This gives us the representation that its just a typical American prom night and makes the audience believe that the genre is a chick flick. This all changes later on in the trailer where there are more props introduced, these are: Knife, Body bag, these item effect the audience because it makes them change their views on the film and makes them realize that this film is in fact a horror.

Costume, Hair and Makeup
All the male characters are dressed up in suits and all the female characters dressed up in dresses. This give the audience that this is a special occasion and the characters are dressed to impress. However one character is dressed differently he is dressed in a dark boiler suit, this gives the audience the impression that he doesn't belong there and because he is dressed in a dark colour it effects the audience immediately because it gives the impression that this character is a very dark person and is probably the murderer in this film.

Facial Expressions and Body Language
The facial expressions at the start of the trailer are that they look happy and excited for the big night, the body language also shows this there is one scene where they are all dancing on the dance floor this gives the audience the effect that they are enjoying themselves. This then changes later on in the trailer when their facial expression change to concern and then fear. Fear is also represented in their body language there's one scene where one of the girls was curled up in a ball in the corner, this gives the audience the effect that something isn't right here and that these people really fear for their lives.

Lighting and Colour
At the start of the trailer the lighting was very bright (High key lighting), this gives the audience the effect that the film is going to be a happy film and based on the characters a "Chick Flick". The colour of the main characters dress is very important because it is white it gives the audience the impression that  this character is innocent and sweet. The lighting then changes half way through the trailer this is triggered as the lights of the hall go out, the lighting then turns to a Low key lighting which gives us the effect that something isn't right and that all the views that we had about this film up until this point will change dramatically. The colour of the characters clothes change to darker colours for example you can see the black shoes of the murderer which gives the effect that this character is the dark dangerous character and that we shouldn't go near them.

Where people/objects are positioned within the frame
In the first part of the trailer the people are positioned in the centre of the frame, this shows the audience who the main characters of this film are. Later on in the trailer this all changes when one of the character is curled up with her back to the wall, this gives the audience the impression that this girl is in danger and that she is expecting someone to walk up to her. The knife is then the key object of this part because it is in the middle of the frame, which shows the importance of the knife and how this is the weapon of choice to kill the people. Then the main character of the film is set further back in the frame, this gives the audience the impression that someone is watching her and that she is not alone.
